Dog and cat age calculators
The “times seven” rule is wrong: the first two years count more, then the pace depends on the species and, for dogs, adult size. These pages apply a teaching chart and say so.
A five-year medium dog is 15 + 9 + 15 = 39 on this chart; a three-year cat is 28. No breed, illness or weight enters the maths. The figure is for talking about life pace, not for dosing a drug.

Why not multiply by seven?
Because the first year “counts” much more than later years, and large dogs often age faster after two. A staged chart matches that observation without becoming a clinical exam.
Does the result say how long the animal will live?
No. It is a pace metaphor, not a life expectancy. A vet relies on the exam, not on this number.
