Assessment
Strong — within the classic 28/36 guideline
Max housing payment at 28%
$2,100.00
Max total debts at 36%
$2,700.00

Steps

  1. ($2,100.00 + $600.00) ÷ $7,500.00 × 100 = 36%

Worked example

Example: $7,500 income, $2,100 house payment, $600 other debts

  1. Front-end = 2,100 ÷ 7,500 = 28%
  2. Back-end = (2,100 + 600) ÷ 7,500 = 36%

28/36 — right at the classic guideline.

Formula

Front-end DTI = Housing payment ÷ Gross monthly income × 100

Back-end DTI = (Housing + Other debts) ÷ Gross monthly income × 100

Count minimum payments on credit cards, car loans, student loans, child support and other loans. Don't include utilities, groceries or insurance (other than in the housing payment).
