Turn an hourly rate into annual gross pay

Three numbers: hourly rate, weekly hours, paid weeks. The tool returns the week, the calendar month (year / 12) and the year.

Calculate

Gross pay per hour, before tax and payroll deductions.

Paid hours in a typical week. US full-time is often 40.

52 if every week is paid, including vacation. Use fewer only if those weeks are unpaid.

How the calculator works

Gross annual pay is the product of the three fields. The monthly figure is that annual amount divided by 12 civil months, not by 52/12 weeks. That is how US salaried offers are usually quoted. Tax, FICA, 401(k) and overtime premiums are out of scope.

Formula and method

weekly = hourly × hours/week

Gross for a typical week.

annual = weekly × weeks/year

52 if vacation is paid.

monthly = annual ÷ 12

Twelve equal months, not 4.33 weeks.

This is a volume conversion, not a paycheck. Minimum wage, union scales and time-and-a-half are not loaded. If PTO is paid, leave 52 weeks. Use 50 only when two weeks are genuinely unpaid.

Worked example

$18/h, 40 h, 52 weeks

$18/h, 40 h/week, 52 weeks.

  1. Weekly = 18 × 40 = 720.
  2. Annual = 720 × 52 = 37,440.
  3. Monthly = 37,440 ÷ 12 = 3,120.

$3,120 gross/month, $37,440 gross/year.

Input notes

Gross hourly rate
Gross hourly rate. Net pay does not convert with a single percentage.
Hours per week
Paid hours in a typical week, overtime excluded unless you fold it in on purpose.
Paid weeks per year
52 in a usual W-2 role with paid time off.

Assumptions and limits

Assumptions

  • Every hour is paid at the same rate.
  • A month is one twelfth of the year.
  • No deductions.

Limits

  • No overtime at 1.5×.
  • No federal or state tax.
  • No 13th month or bonus.

How to read the result

Compare a salaried offer to the annual figure, not the hourly one. 40 h at $18 is not the same job as 20 h at $18. Lenders usually look at net, not this gross.

Common mistakes

  • Multiplying the week by 4.

    A month is not four weeks. Divide the year by 12.

  • Putting 50 weeks when vacation is paid.

    Paid PTO still counts: use 52.

  • Reading this as take-home pay.

    FICA and withholding are missing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to a salary?

Hourly × hours × weeks, then ÷ 12 for a month.

Build the year first, then divide by 12. Avoid hourly × 2,080 if your week is not 40 hours: 2,080 is 40 × 52, not a universal constant.

Is 2,080 hours always right?

Only for 40 h × 52 weeks.

Part-time, unpaid leave or a 35-hour contract changes the product. Type the hours you are actually paid.

Is this net pay?

No, it is gross.

US withholding depends on W-4, state, and benefits. This tool does not invent a tax table.
