Calculate pregnancy week from the last period

The LMP and, if you want, a date. The tool counts weeks of amenorrhea and shows the trimester.

Calculate

The LMP, the same date used for the due-date calculation.

Leave blank for today (UTC). Enter a date to read gestational age on a specific day.

How the calculator works

Clinical gestational age is counted from the first day of the last period, not from conception. Civil days are divided by 7: 10+3 means 10 weeks and 3 days. The first trimester runs through 13+6, the second through 27+6, the third after that. An ultrasound due date, if you have one, takes priority over this calendar.

Formula and method

days = date − LMP

Civil UTC calendar days, no clock time.

weeks = ⌊days / 7⌋

The remainder is the extra days.

Same origin as Naegele: 40 weeks of amenorrhea. We do not adjust for a 35-day cycle. Past 300 days the result is rejected: a pregnancy dated that way is no longer in the model.

Worked example

70 days after LMP

lmp = 2026-01-01, asOf = 2026-03-12.

  1. 70 days.
  2. 70 ÷ 7 = 10 weeks exactly.
  3. Trimester 1.

10+0, first trimester.

Input notes

First day of last period
First day of the last period.
As-of date (optional)
Date on which to read the age. Blank = today UTC.

Assumptions and limits

Assumptions

  • Dating from LMP.
  • 280 days for term.
  • Trimesters at weeks 1–13, 14–27, 28+.

Limits

  • No biometry.
  • No twins.
  • Not medical advice.

How to read the result

People often say 12 weeks for anything from 12+0 through 12+6. The figure shown splits weeks and days to avoid that blur. Real follow-up uses the date the clinician kept.

Common mistakes

  • Counting from conception.

    Obstetric age starts from the period, about two weeks earlier.

  • Rounding 12+4 up to “13 weeks”.

    You say 12+4, not the next week.

  • Ignoring an ultrasound due date.

    If it redated the pregnancy, that is the date that counts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know how many weeks pregnant I am?

Days since LMP, divided by 7.

The remainder is the extra days. 10+3 = 10 weeks and 3 days of amenorrhea.

When does the second trimester start?

At 14+0 in this model.

The 14- and 28-week cutoffs are display conventions, not a detailed clinical trimester diagnosis.

Does this replace an ultrasound?

No.

A first-trimester scan often redates. This calculator has no biometry.
