True Winter or Cool Winter
These are two names for the same season. Some analysts say "Cool Winter" because the defining trait is a cool undertone, with clarity second. Coloring often includes dark hair, cool-toned skin and bright eyes, but True Winters exist in every skin tone.
The palette
True Winter's best colors are pure and blue-based: true red, royal blue, emerald, magenta, violet and hot pink. Pure white and black sit side by side here, one of the few seasons where both look right. Icy blue, icy violet and lemon ice are the light shades; they look almost white with a hint of color.
Dressing as a True Winter
- Pair black or navy with a jewel tone.
- Try pure white with one bright color for crisp contrast.
- Use cool gray and charcoal for softer days.
Colors to avoid
Orange, camel, olive and rust are the main ones. They are warm and earthy, and on cool skin they can look dull or yellow.
Neighbors
True Winter borders Deep Winter, Bright Winter and True Summer. Summer shares the coolness but is softer. If very saturated colors feel too strong, try the True Summer palette.
Accessories and makeup
Silver, platinum and white gold suit this season. Blue-red, fuchsia and berry lipsticks match the palette well. Find your season first with the seasonal color quiz if you are unsure.
