Lime versus limegreen
The two CSS keywords are easy to mix up. lime (#00FF00) is the pure green channel at full strength, the most intense green a typical screen shows. limegreen (#32CD32) is noticeably darker and calmer. Neither looks much like the fruit, which is closer to the softer, yellower shades in the last group.
Handling a loud color
Lime greens are among the brightest colors a screen can show, so a little goes a long way:
- Use lime for one accent: a button, a highlight, a sale badge.
- Pair it with charcoal, navy or black, where it glows, rather than with white, where it can look washed out.
- Avoid lime text on white: the "Aa" figures show black text winning on every bright lime.
Lime in fashion and sport
Lime and acid green turn up in sportswear and safety gear because they stay visible in poor light. In fashion, they come and go with neon trends.
Neighbors
Neon colors gathers the most electric shades from every hue. For gentler greens, see light green and shades of green. Bright limes also appear in the bright colors and spring colors collections.
