Baked earth

Terracotta is Italian for "baked earth", the color of unglazed clay pots and roof tiles. It is a warm, muted orange-brown. There is no CSS keyword, but #E2725B is a common reference.

Terracotta, rust and burnt orange

  • Terracotta is softer and slightly pink.
  • Rust is redder and darker.
  • Burnt orange is brighter. See burnt orange.

Styling terracotta

Terracotta is a staple of earthy and Mediterranean palettes. It pairs well with sage green, cream, olive, navy and dusty blue. It warms up interiors without the intensity of pure orange.
